The Lost Forge is nestled in the rolling hills of San Juan Bautista, just a few miles from town.
From a young age, Dan was drawn to the craft of blacksmithing. The methods, the physical work, and the deep satisfaction of shaping metal by hand inspired a lifelong passion that would eventually become his career.
Dan’s appreciation for blacksmithing grew alongside a reverence for the traditions and values that have faded in an increasingly fast-paced, automated world. It was this connection to craftsmanship—and to what has been lost over time—that led to the name “The Lost Forge.”
He launched his business at the age of 21 and has spent the last 35 years honing his skills, growing creatively, and developing a distinct artistic voice. Early in his career, Dan began working with a group of interior designers in Saratoga who encouraged his eye for design and inspired new creative directions. Through that collaboration, he contributed to prestigious showcase homes including Villa Montalvo in Saratoga and the Carolands Mansion in Hillsborough.
Much of Dan’s work today comes through word-of-mouth referrals and custom commissions. He has a particular affinity for the flowing lines and natural elegance of Art Nouveau, which often finds its way into his designs.
What sets Dan apart is the personal and collaborative process he brings to each project. He takes time to understand his clients’ vision—whether they come with a specific theme or just a spark of inspiration. Often, the result is something even more whimsical, balanced, or unexpected than originally imagined. These creative challenges are what continue to drive Dan's evolution as both a craftsman and an artist.
